Basic Networking

First of all we will need to find out what IP range

Press the Windows Key + “R” Button.

This will bring up the run command.

Type “cmd” and Press enter.

You will see a black window appears.

Type “ipconfig” and press enter.

You will see the following:

IPv4 Address: Current IP Address of the PC you are working on.

Subnet Mask: It should be standard as 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway: This is you Routers IP Address.

If you IP Address is: 192.168.0.51

Then your range will be 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.25

If you IP Address is: 192.168.0.51

Then your range will be 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.254

If you IP Address is: 192.168.0.51

Then your range will be 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.254

Now we are going to find a free IP Address that we can use on the network that IP Address is not being in use. Type “ping 192.168.0.200” If you get a request timed out that IP Address is not being in use. If you do get a reply you will need to ping another address example “ping 192.168.0.201” until you find a free IP Address where it say request timed out.

Now that you have found a free IP Address that you can use. Change your IP Address on the device you want to connect. Ping the IP Address after you have change the IP Address on your device you are adding to confirm that you can read the IP address if you are still getting a time out check your network cable and your wiring of your JR45 connect. Your standard color coding for South Africa is Orange White, Orange, Green White, Blue, Blue white, Green, Brown White, Brown.
